In summary
Thanks to Aletiq, MECANO ID was able to:
✓ Centralize all project data (architecture, design, manufacturing, quality...)
✓ Ensure compliance with regulatory standards: EN 9100, ISO 9001...
✓ Ensure the digital continuity of data and improve collaboration between teams
✓ Automate validation and signature circuits
✓ Digitize the management of new product development projects (team, planning, deliverables...)
For more than 25 years, MECANO ID has been developing mechanical and thermal subsystems for the space sector. The company has become a privileged partner of the main prime contractors and space agencies.
It relies on key technical skills in mechanical and thermal engineering, composite manufacturing and environmental testing to create its complex systems (structures, instruments, equipment, etc.).
Recently, MECANO ID participated in the success of the Ariane 6 mission with its EOS deployer.
Operational challenges
MECANO ID has historically operated in project mode and has recently launched the development of a range of its own products. To support this initiative and capitalize on knowledge, it was imperative to optimize the management of technical data.
Operational inefficiencies in data management
→ Complexity of managing CATIA CAD files on the local server: indices, schedules, use cases...
→ Waste of time looking for applicable data
→ Manual and time-consuming validation circuits via tracking sheets
A lack of traceability and risks of non-compliance
→ Lack of collaboration between teams: architects, design office, manufacturing, quality...
→ Complex configuration management via excel files
→ Lack of traceability of product developments and risks of non-compliance with EN 9100 and ISO 9001 standards
Setting up Aletiq
Deployment at MECANO ID was rapid and took place in project mode to gradually migrate all data and operating modes to Aletiq. The teams quickly gained expertise on the tool: Architect, Design Office, Project, Production, Quality, Purchasing... Each department identified a project manager in charge of coordinating users and reporting needs.
In just 1 month of support, current projects have been migrated and new operating methods implemented:
→ Definition of the target model with operational teams: data structure, workflows...
→ MECANO ID data history migration
→ Software settings
→ Customized on-site user training
The adoption of teams
Historically, CATIA CAD data was managed on local servers, which led to loss of time in their management (research, updating, index management, etc.) and a lack of traceability of developments. Thanks to the Aletiq x CATIA plugin, design office designers benefit from a single source of truth for CAD data: 3D, 2D, nomenclature...
Aletiq also allows MECANO ID to centralize all project data (notes, calculations, data sheets, justifications, test reports...), to manage the nomenclature (CADBOM - EBOM - MBOM) and to control the configurations throughout the product life cycle (As Design, As Built...) and to control the configurations throughout the product life cycle (As Design, As Built...). The operational teams (Architecture, Design Office, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing...) finally share the same visibility on projects!
The Quality team manages Product and System quality directly in the platform thanks to document management functionalities and workflows. In a very demanding regulatory context, Aletiq allows MECANO ID to ensure compliance with EN 9100 and ISO 9001 standards.
In project mode, the need for collaboration between teams is essential. MECANO ID uses Aletiq project management to manage the planning, milestones and deliverables of new product developments. The teams also digitized the circuits for validating configurations and signing plans using configurable workflows.
